The first thing I ask an owner who tells me their senior dog “just doesn’t want to play anymore” is: what does that actually look like? Not the summary — the specifics. The dog-specific evidence base is still thin, and I say that as someone who wants it to be stronger. Braiding it into a whole-patient plan, not a single chew

This is where I part ways with a “pick a supplement” mindset. In my practice, an NR-and-antioxidant chew is one thread in a plan, not the plan. What I tell owners at the recheck

Here’s the honest version.

If a senior dog’s slowdown is joint-driven, an NR chew alone won’t move the needle much, and I’ll say so plainly rather than let a supplement substitute for a pain workup.
